Why we
chose
Charter School as a schooling option?
Charter
Schools
are
public
schools
with the
freedom
to be
better,
formed
on the
bases of
innovative
teaching
methods
and
curtailed
towards
exclusivity,
depending
on the
need of
a
particular
community.
Charter
schools
are
designed
and
operated
NOT by
the
local
school
district,
but by
groups
of
founders
that
includes
parents,
educators
and
community
leaders.
Founders
must
obtain a
charter,
which is
the
specific
contractual
authority
to run
the
charter
school.
This
contract
is
obtained
from an
authorizing
body
established
under
the
State
law.
Founders
have a
great
deal of
independence
to
decide
the
school
budget,
staff,
curriculum,
teaching
method
and
disciplinary
action. In
exchange
for this
independence,
charter
schools
must
meet
high
accountability
and
academic
performance
standards,
and must
successfully
manage
school
finances
and
operations.
Charter
schools
offer
opportunities
to
innovate
and
provide
new and
better
services
to
students.
They are
freed
from
some of
the
traditional
bureaucracy
and
regulations
that
divert a
school's
energy
and
resources
toward
compliance
rather
than
excellence.
Attendance
Zone
All of
Harris County as well as neighboring counties will serve as
Guidance
Academy ’s attendance zone.
Student
Teacher
Ratio
The
student
-
teacher
ratio is
expected
to be
18:1
Food
Service
Guidance
Academy recognizes that parents are busy and that
packing
a
nutritional
lunch
everyday
can be a
challenge.
The
school
further
recognizes
the
importance
of Halal
/ Kosher
/
vegetarian
diets
for the
diverse
cultural
need of
the
community.
Keeping
these in
mind, we
are
considering
providing
a lunch
menu
that
will be
healthy
and also
culturally
acceptable.
The
school
also
recognizes
that
many
students
may not
be able
to
afford
lunch.
Therefore,
reduced
or free
lunch
will be
provided.
Transportation
Guidance
Academy is currently in the process of exploring
viable
transportation
services
to offer
the
students.
At
present
time, students
are
encouraged
to carpool
or use
their
own
transportation.
